Dirty Contacts Makes for a Noisy Sound System

Updated: Feb 7, 2019

Here in Hawaii especially, the salt air, metal and oxidation will play havoc on electrical connections for microphones, musical instrument plug-ins etc., especially if its amplified through the loud speaker system. The same will happen to faders found on sound boards and smaller devices.

You need not fret as there is a simple fix for these problems that don't involve any tools. Purchase a decent can of electrical contact cleaner and spray the ends of all you cables and connectors. I have been using the CRC brand and it works great. You may not be able to have it sent as it may be considered as hazard materials.

Be sure the power is off but don't worry it will dry in a minute or two. A must for every sound man in the business.
