Setting Up the Bands Monitor System

Updated: Feb 14, 2019

Key to a band's best performance is to have the best possible sound setting on the bands' monitor system. Emphasis on certain instruments is driven by the genre of the music being performed. A reggae band, for example, will have a strong emphasis on the bass and drums.

Traditionally we would set up sounds for the instruments than the vocalists. However, It is recommended that we break that tradition and work on the vocals first, then do the instruments. This way the singers will be prompting volume changes of the instruments so that they aren't overpowered by and unable to hear themselves.

It's always harder to bring the instruments down for the benefit of the vocalists. In my experience, this is an easier accomplishment with experienced bands.
